Fundamental Studies (Grundklasse, 1st. + 2nd. semester)
30 days of lessons per semester
During the first year the students receive basic knowledge and skills on the subjects of photography, visual creation, technique and history of photography.
In Photography- professional course students are introduced by practical tasks into the most important photographic forms like object, portrait, pictorial feature, architecture and landscape. Teamwork is used to strengthen the coherence within the class and social competence essential for photographers. Smaller works about free topics offer the opportunity to find out and deepen own preferences. The results will be presented as part of collective discussions under tutorial advices by the teacher.
Additionally to the professional course students are introduced to the basics of composition and visual form (body and space, abstraction, colour, typography etc.)
In technique lessons they learn about film formats, camera types and the effects of different components towards the image results (light, focal distance, exposure time, sharpness etc.). All technical aspects are comment during practical exercises. The students learn how to develop film and make prints of own images (Colour and Black & White). Parallel to analogue photography they are familiarized with the basics of digital exposure and reproduction, to get the ability to present results quick during image reviewing. The school disposes own digital technique.
